Our Story

My story began in the village, Butaleja, Budusu, in Eastern Uganda.  Born the youngest of 10 children, I, Arthur Kiwala, remember my first memory as a child was traveling to the village to bury my oldest brother.  Shortly after this, at the age of nine, my father was killed by his cousins over jealousy of his land, and again, we made that trip to the village for another burial; this one would change the entire trajectory of our lives.  Life after my father's death was filled with poverty, death, and unending transience.

In 2000, after moving for the sixth time, at the age of 17, I was living with a family friend.  A family moved in next door consisting of a single mother with her six children, whose father had also been killed.  This family was a family of Christians.  They invited me to church and it was there that the Lord revealed my need for Him as my Savior and the trajectory of my life once again shifted.

In 2014, I met my wife, Becca. We got married in 2016.  Now, eight years later, we have felt the call of the Lord to remember the people of Butaleja; the people of whom I am one of them, a people loved by God but forgotten by man, a people burdened by poverty, lack of education & healthcare and witchcraft.  Through N'Jani Ministries, led by God and in partnership with you, we believe that transformation can come to this small community and to Uganda as a whole for the glory of God.

The Problems

Uganda has a teen pregnancy rate of 25%*.

43% of girls in Uganda are given in marriage before the age of 18.**

In Butaleja, only 24.6% of children attend early childhood education. ***

There is only 1 doctor for every 24,725 Ugandans & 28.27% of people live farther than 1 hours walking distance of the lowest level clinic.+

In Butaleja, 40% of people don't have access to clean drinking water. ****

72 % of women in Uganda have experienced spousal violence.***
